I’ve taken a break from printmaking this week and finished up a piece of work that I started a while ago. It’s a small quilt which is composed of tiny pieces of fabric which have been painted. The piece was sewn and then slashed and then sewn together again. The circles in the lower half of the piece are meant to represent a grounding element within the chaos.
I seem to be flitting from one idea to the next this morning. I also just did this embossed paper, paint, and screen print…it could end up working with the floppy disks or go into a pile of raw materials.
I just finished printing a series of the trees and a few prints from a solar plate I made from a back yard chair. I have a loose concept of what I think I want to do here and it’s beginning to come together in my head but it’ll be a while before it’s I can pull it together.
I just found a pile of old floppy disks which seem to want to be printed on and painted, but I’m not sure why.
So I’m not sure I like where this is going but I’ve torn and sewn part of a screen print to the intaglio print..still just playing with the forms.
Here’s my first run of the plate. I’m not sure where I’ll go with this. Is this it or shall I kill my darlings.
I then needed to make a solar plate from the print. So used my homemade light box to burn the image onto my photo sensitive plate.
My first step was to desaturate the photo and print it on clear acetate. Perhaps the process of working with this image will keep summer and Tuscany alive as I move into the winter and teaching at SHS.
